Fire Prevention

Phone: (530) 458-7721

Any firefighter will tell you that the best way to fight a fire is to prevent one before it starts. Fire Prevention is a mission that the Colusa Fire Department takes very seriously. Each October, during Fire Prevention Week, the Department’s personnel travel to local schools to help spread the word about fire prevention and public safety education.

Fire safety is not just a once a year event, it’s a year round crusade. Everyone should practice fire safety at home, at work, at school, anywhere you happen to be.

Some helpful fire safety tips include:
  • Check your smoke detectors weekly and replace the batteries twice a year. An easy way to remember to change them is change your detector batteries when you change your clocks for daylight savings time.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of children’s hands.
  • Have an escape plan for your home and have TWO ways out of your house.
  • Remember, once you’re outside your house, STAY OUT. NEVER go back into a burning building.
  •  Dial 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s house.
